Constraint Management : the five Steps of theory of Constraints..

 

1. IDENTIFY the system's constraints...

Its important to find out the real constraint and find out the weakest link in the chain, zero down on the bottleneck..

2.Decide how to EXPLOIT the system constraints

Plan to maximize the efficient use of the identified constraint to the optimal level

3. SUBORDINATE everything else to above decision.

Arrange any thing and everything to ensure identified constraint is optimally used.

4. ELEVATE the system's constraints..

Strengthen and improve on the process, use alternates and ensure it no more remians the bottleneck...

5. If the constraint was broken in previous step, go back to STEP1. Dont let the INERTIA to take on the system.

Shift the focus to the next possible constraint, if the present constraint is no more applicable...and restart the process to handle the new constraint..

if the constraint is policy related, its more dangerous... we cant go and use step 2. therefore, its important to review the policy and if required, amend it..ASAP.
