Difference between a NORMAL manager and the GREAT manager....

An example by one of our professor during my MBA which struck in my mind...it definitely made an impact on me...

One day during our MBA class, our professor asked, do you know what is the difference between NORMAL managers and the GREAT managers? Every one answered to our best understanding and experience. Many of us talked about the difference in skills, leadership, management styles, experience, decisiveness, business understanding, visionary personality etc...

Our professor taught, it can be easily understood through the game of chess....

This CHESS has variety of its workforce. Each of its workforce has its unique skills and expertise. Each one is most powerful in their positions and the way they work.. When supported in it's principle positions, a mere solider can  be troublesome to queen, elephant, camel or horse of opponent. Camel can be troublesome to elephant or queen if got opportunity to play diagonally.

Whole team may be of NO use if their skills are not used or miss used.

Great managers understand their team's strength and weakness. They plan and assign them the work they team members are most efficient. Great managers exploit the strengths of the team members and work on their weakness to support. This helps them to achieve the Impossible. This is what makes them great managers.

On the contrary,  normal managers don't differentiate or don't understand the strengths or weakness of their team members and assign them the work as per Manager's wish or will. they work to preserve their self interests as the first goal.  This kills the synergy..and end up in doing the double efforts and ultimately loose. Think about a horse assigned the work of solider or vis versa.. Result can be understood well before the game begins.. :-)

I could never forget that class....made a lifetime impact.. Decide if you wish to be a Great Manager or a Normal Manager.. CHOICE IS YOURS :-)
